THE RESTORATION OF CREATION

THE RESTORATION OF CREATION THROUGH MODERNIZATION OF THE BUILDING CHAIN IN DIRECTION OF SUSTAINABILITY, A PATH TO RECONCILIATION OF MAN WITH GOD

CONTEXT
Rediscovering the link of man with creation, being him the guardian of creation, supporting actions of care, conservation and defense of the territory, biodiversity and artistic and landscape assets as an opportunity for economic and social development of the community. The project was born on a reflection held within the Council of the Abruzzo and Molise Ecclesiastical Region of the Italian Catholic Action, in which, starting from the directions of Pope Francis to the Italian Church at the conclusion of the conference in Florence, the pontiff introduced the so-called "eighth work of spiritual mercy", the safeguard of the common good. In this context, the Catholic Action Workers Movement of the dioceses of Chieti-Vasto and L'Aquila, wondered how to realize these directions, and decided to provide young people with the opportunity to get involved and create new awareness on the value of professional ethics starting from the environmental theme. The basic elements on which this proposal is based are the following:

  • The "Treaty of Social Economy" by Blessed Giuseppe Toniolo, regarding the ethics of work;
  • The recent EU Directives on sustainable development;
  • The recent national regulations on green procurement and procurement in public administrations also through the efficiency improvement of buildings through ESCo (companies that finance themselves with the savings they plan through energy audits);
  • Building sustainability certification tools (rating systems);
  • The "Encyclical LaudatoSi" by Pope Francis.

This project aims to follow up, through a path of awareness, information and training of all the players in the building sector in Region Abruzzo, in Italy and in the world, with particular attention to young people and to the creation of a new professional ethics.

WHY THREE CONFERENCES

It is recognized that the complexity of the subject, the different technical contents, the impact on the working methods and the expected results, impose the need for:

  • a process of listening, discussion, comparison and calibrated updating;
  • presenting and discussing concrete cases of design and construction of sustainable buildings and neighborhoods;
  • presenting and discussing concrete projects for the application of the dictates of the Green Economy applied to the building sector.
